The Breakaway Fuels U10 Red Devils had a busy weekend to
start their playoffs but the boys battled hard and came away with all 6 points.
Saturday saw the young devils host the Central Ontario
Wolves in Coleborne. The kids came out
flying and scored 14 seconds into the game on a goal from Kai Mackie from Ethan
Dowling. The Wolves would turn up the
pressure for the next few minutes and tie the score half way through the
first. Jackson Simpson would give the
home team back the lead one minute later with assists going to Evan VanEgmond
and Mason Cooke. The second period had
two more Quinte goals by Wade Robinson from Dowling and Mackie and then Mackie
from Kolton Solmes. The Wolves would cut
the lead in half early in the third but Tripp Plumley would regain the three goal
lead on a pass from Reid Haley. That
would be all they would need and Jordan Andrews would get a 5-2 win in net
along with the Devil of the Day fork.
Sunday had the team on the 401 for a double header. Stop number one was in Clarington at
1pm. The Devils came out hard and got a
1-0 lead on a goal by Plumley from Haley and Robinson. They would take a 2-1 into the third on a
beautiful unassisted goal by Greyson Rennie.
After a couple of sloppy plays the U10’swould find themselves behind 3-2
with 12minutes left in the game. With 6
minutes left Haley would score an Ovechkin like goal from his back to even the score. Two minutes later Solmes would finish off a
tic-tac-toe play from Robinson and Mackie.
Silas Templar would provide an insurance marker from Dowling and the Breakaway
Boys would finish off a 5-3 win. Deacon
Vos secured the win in net and Greyson Rennie carried out the Devil of the Day
fork.
With just enough time to hop in the cars and get to Markham
the team was back on the ice at 5pm to face the Waxers. They did not show any signs of fatigue and came
up with a great team game dominating from start to finish ending with a 7-1
victory. Leading the way in this one was
Dowling with three goals and two assists.
Other goal scorers were Mackie (2), Simpson and Plumley. Assists went to Solmes, Mackie, Templar,
Rennie, Cooke and Avery Thickson.
Andrews would get his second win of the weekend. Dowling would take home the Fork.
Next weekend sees the Breakaway Boys continue their playoff
journey with a trip to Woodville for a rematch with Central on Saturday
afternoon and then they host the Clarington Toros in Madoc on Sunday at 2pm.
