Taylor Hall Classic Tournament Recap: January 12th-14th
The Madison Excavating QRD U12s had an exciting and successful three days in Kingston and Napanee, competing in their fourth tournament of the 2023-2024 season. The team finished with a 3-0-1 record after round-robin play, securing their spot in the semi-final game on Sunday morning.

The tournament kicked off on Friday, January 12th, when QRD went head-to-head with the Toronto Nationals, who are currently the 8th-ranked team in the province. The Devils showed resilience and grit, and the battle ended in a 3-3 tie. That afternoon, the Devils dominated the Halton Hurricanes, with a commanding 5-2 victory, setting the bar high for the remainder of the weekend. The following morning, Saturday, January 13th, Quinte faced the Ottawa Meyers. QRD played a strong game, and in a closely contested battle, finished with a 4-3 victory. In the early evening, QRD matched up with the Upper Canada Cyclones. Once again, the boys put in an incredible effort, and emerged triumphant, with a 6-2 win, securing their spot in the semi-final game. Early Sunday morning, QRD brought their best to the semi-final game against the Toronto Nationals. The game was incredibly close; the score was deadlocked at four after regulation. Unfortunately, the Nationals managed to find the back of the net in overtime, and the Quinte Red Devils experienced their first and only loss of the weekend, eliminating them from the tournament. Nonetheless, it was a successful three days for the U12 Red Devils, who demonstrated an incredible amount of effort and challenged some amazing teams in the process.

Coach’s Corner with Head Coach, Evan Osterhout:

“Our team was very difficult to play against in the tournament. Their focus, work ethic, and resilience are something they can be proud of when reflecting on the weekend.”
