Gillespies Tree Service QRD U14’s Weekly Report - January 22, 2024
The Gillespie’s Tree Service U14 Quinte Red Devils put regular season play on hold this weekend as they hosted the inaugural Battle of the Bay in partnership with the Belleville Senators this weekend.

They kicked off the tournament Friday afternoon with a matchup against the Ottawa Jr. 67s where they fell short 3-2. Goals were scored by Minifie and Dahle with assists from B. Aird, Whelan, Laurin and Kennedy.The Devils were back at it again the next morning bright and early to face off with the Elgin Middlesex Canucks where they got back on to the right track with a 4-1 victory, Gayle getting the win in net. Goals came from Lowry, Whelan, Laurin and Clow with assists coming from Laurin, Dahle, Clow, Minifie, Lowry and M. Aird.

The squad moved into the final game of round robin play with a win and you’re in scenario and they did just that, besting the Ottawa Valley Titans 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals. Ferriss got the win between the pipes and goals were scored by Clow(3), Minifie, Whelan and Beebe. Assists were added by Minifie(4), Whelan(2), Kennedy, Clow, Dahle, Peeters, Westcott and B. Aird.

The Devils were at the rink again Sunday morning to face off against the Eastern Ontario Wild for the Semi Final in what many are calling the game of the tournament. Down 3-2 with 6.1 seconds left in the third period the Devils scored to tie it up and send it to overtime. After a scoreless overtime it all came down to the shootout, where Clow and Whelan scored for the Devils and Gayle shut the door against both shooters that he faced, securing the victory and a trip to the finals. Goals came from Laurin(2) and Whelan with assists coming from M. Aird(2), Lowry, Jones, Kennedy and Minifie.

It all came down to Sunday afternoon on the Belleville Sens home ice, with the Devils getting a rematch against their only loss of the weekend, the Ottawa Jr 67s. The Devils scored 9 seconds into the opening puck drop and didn’t look back from there. The Devils ended up taking this one 9-3 with Gayle getting the win and the Quinte Red Devils being named champions! Goals came from Clow(3), Whelan(2), Minifie, Dahle, Laurin and B. Aird. Assists were added by Whelan(4), Harold(2), Minifie(2), B. Aird, Clow, Lowry and M. Aird.

That’s a wrap on the Battle of the Bay, the squad is back in regular season action this weekend!
